Head Coach Mazen Kholi brings decades of wrestling experience and a lifelong passion for developing athletes both on and off the mat.
Growing up in the Lehigh Valley, Mazen built a strong foundation through youth and high school wrestling before continuing his career at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown (UPJ). There, he competed under legendary coach Pat Pecora while also training with coach Jody Strittmatter, founder of the nationally recognized Young Guns Wrestling Club.
Since joining the Malvern Wrestling family in 2013, Mazen has played an instrumental role in the growth and success of both the Malvern Wrestling Club and Malvern Prep's wrestling program alongside Coaches Nate Lautar and Nate Wachter. His commitment extends far beyond wins and losses, emphasizing discipline, accountability, work ethic, and character.
A Malvern Prep alum from the class of 1998, Nate Lautar has led the school's varsity wrestling program for two decades. He returned to Malvern as an assistant in 2006, when there were just eight boys in the wrestling room, and has since built it into one of the top prep programs in the country — reaching No. 1 nationally in 2021, stringing together a dozen straight Inter-Ac League titles, and sending more than 30 wrestlers on to Division I programs.
In 2017 he was named Prep Coach of the Year by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. His coaching roots run through youth wrestling — he got his start with a local youth club before helping develop young wrestlers at the Malvern level.
Nate Wachter is a longtime fixture of the Malvern wrestling program. As an assistant coach, he helped guide the Malvern Prep varsity team to its 2023 Pennsylvania Independent Schools state championship, and was named Assistant Coach of the Year that season.
His work has also earned national recognition — he was honored as the National Wrestling Coaches Association Prep Assistant Coach of the Year in 2020.
